Sammes Slöjd - Twin Birch Container Large
Twin Birch Container Large
If you love camping, walking and the great outdoors, then this should be right up your... dirt track. A hand-made birch container for your coffee and sugar.
The manufacturing process for this container is a method followed by many generations and uses a locking technique of birch bark called 'tampning' - or 'roping' in English. This means that the birch is cut into specially shaped pieces which are then hooked together - this forms the pattern on the front of the container.
The lids, made from sallow, are also hand-made. To ensure a perfect fit they are sanded off to get a tight cupping fit and given a small reindeer skin tab to open easily. They're also engraved with Kaffe (coffee) and Socker (sugar) so you know what to put in it!
Length: 16cm (coffee compartment 11cm / sugar compartment 4cm)
Sammes Slöjd translates to Sammy's Crafts and is run by 72-year old Sam-Olov Andersson. Based in the small village of Bjurfors in northern Sweden, Sam continues a family tradition of woodwork by hand. For all of his products, Sam picks the wood or bark by hand in the spring from birch trees to use during the rest of the year in his workshop.
